Hanukah Tree

I have two jewish co-workers, my boss and one of our salespeople. The salesguy just told me that he and his wife, both Jewish, put up their tree last night with lots of Hanukah decorations on it. He told me how he is looking for a light-weight menorah to top it, and a skirt to cover the bottom. I didn't know what to say.

On the one hand it makes me cringe. On the other, at least there aren't any Santa Claus's on there.

Sara, Z and semgirl -
I guess it just makes me sad. Chanukah is such a beautiful holiday with an amazing story behind it, and its own wonderful traditions, that I don't understand why someone would feel the need to steal the tradition of another holiday in order to celebrate it.

The worst was when somebody told me her dad eats ham on his matzah. I was like "umm, that's great..."

I have heard similar stories as well. It's hard because I don't want to be condescending or judgmental, but I certainly don't want to encourage it.

Jack -
I don't know if this one is ignorance. My co-worker knows a lot about Judaism and he and his wife, while not completely kosher, make an effort to buy only kosher products at the grocery store. So I don't know what to make of the tree.
