hello there, well i didn't read the article completely as well but lately i've surfed the blogs of israelians in hope of getting acquainted to you guys...and one question for this article...does judaism allow women to minister in 'church service'? if yes, what do they do? by the way i am christian and i'm mauritian and in my country, female do have the right to minister in church...:)
Anon - It depends on what you mean by "minister" and it also depends on which congregation you attend. If you see my post above this one about a female rosh kehillah, it will take you to an article about a recent decision by a Jewish congregation that has just appointed the first female congregational leader. Other Orthodox Jewish congregations do not allow this for the most part, with rare exceptions made for female-only prayer services. Other streams of Judaism, however, do allow women rabbis and leaders of services, and in those, the women lead every part of the service the way a man would. Hope that answers your questions :)
I am an Orthodox Jewish baalas teshuvah who is constantly striving to grow and learn about the world and myself. Feel free to drop me a line with your thoughts on my blog, life, love or anything else!
