Poke
There is a feature on Facebook where you can poke your friends. It's a pointless waste of time, pretty much like the rest of Facebook, so of course, I enjoy it immensely. What I find interesting about it is that the vast majority of pokes I receive back are from my brothers. I wonder, does this indicate a genetic propensity for poking? I think there's a publishable article in there somewhere...

It isn't an entire waste of time... especially done between members of the opposite sex (who aren't related, of course). If nothing else, it's a way of saying to a person "I thought about you". Telling someone they're on your mind can be a precursor to something else... maybe it makes them more likely to invite you to a party, or group social outing, etc.
I await a series of sociological studies about Facebook. :-P

That's a very sweet way of thinking about poking, I'll await a poke from you in the future ;)
And I totally see dissertations written about Facebook being published in the next couple years - I can't wait to read them!
Why don't you write one?
Notice also what LT said "members... NOT RELATED". Ahem.

Maybe I will, someday, when I have time...
And I don't think it's a bad thing to think about my brothers sometimes, I do like them too, and they are far away, so it's the only kind of poke they can get.
poke!

Poke back :)
poke poke poke
it's annoying :P
same as in real life when someone jabs you in the back just to let you know they are there.
You are so funny! I prefer a hug to a poke myself...
I don't think it's something genetic. A friend and I poke each other back and forth just for the fun of it. And it it lots of fun! But I don't poke many other people... ;)
Love your blogs, btw!
