Alabama: The Place to Live
Once again, "take that New Yorkers!" (that's for Ezzie) - Two Alabama cities were named at the top of the salary value index as the cities to live in - both Huntsville (home to NASA) and my hometown, Birmingham.
Check it out:
Salary Center's Places to Live
(Please also note New York at the bottom of the list.)
Disclaimer - I do apologize to you NYers who are convinced it's a great place, I am sure it has a very redeeming qualities. I just haven't really been able to appreciate them yet.

well, i guess jewish ppl have decided that they dont mind giving up allllll the many amenities of alabama in order to have shuls, kosher places to eat and ppl who dont say y'all
But why on earth would you want to give up on people saying y'all? I've been told it's quite endearing...
Troll that p0o9i8u7 may be, he's right about everything except "y'all." "Y'all" is fantastic. I once went to a wedding and heard a waitress at the smorgasbord call a group of elderly men and women "you guys," and I was horrified. "Y'all" would have been a lot nicer.
New York makes it easy to be frum -- and that means for better (for example, eiruvs!) and for worse (such as, crazy people who think they are so frum that they need to rip down your eiruv).
Debbie and p0o9i8u7 -
I know that there are advantages to living in New York. There is a reason why I'm here, and not in Alabama. But getting away from those who say y'all is definitely NOT part of it.
Hey Y'all
i was just kidding about the y'all bsns. evidently kidding doesnt come across well in blog comment boxes. Y'all is very cute. Almost as cute as being called a 'damned yankee' [in all seriousness] by a native Atlantean jew.
p0o9i8u7 -
Glad to hear you came to your senses ;)
Shoshana, we should explore some of the redeeming qualities of NY together. I just bought Fodor's Guide to NYC.
Sara -
That's an excellent idea - I'm all for it!
That's weird, I thought I'd commented. I guess I was too busy laughing at NYC coming in last. :)
This post made my day Tuesday.
Ezzie -
I knew you would like it ;)
Oh, on a totally separate note, my friend's sister and her family are moving (back - my friend was born there) to Birmingham for his residency. So I guess there will be a couple more frum people there...
