Dreams

I had one of those dreams last night where I woke up and was really quite disturbed that my mind could have put together something so weird and out of character. I hate those. It's still bothering me.

My rabbi often tells me that each dream has in it its fair share of shtus. If you had a bad dream, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I could have been your brain processing something you heard or saw during the day. I like to think that my dreams are prophetic, but that is wishful thinking at best. Did you ever realize that you had free will also in your dreams?

Zoe -
I wasn't aware that I have free will in my dreams. I am not too worried about it, I don't think it would ever come true, but I always kind of wonder where they come from...

Interestingly, in class tonight, my professor discussed keeping a dream journal to record and attempt to analyze my dreams. It was an interesting idea.

There's actually an interesting article in this month's Reader's Digest about dreaming. There's something called "lucid dreaming" where you can control your dreaming.

I like analyzing dreams and I find that very often when dreams are very disturbing, they don't mean anything too bad. Once I dreamed that my brother was (chas v'shalom) dying, but really it was about his getting married and leaving home.

If you really books about dream symbolism (Jewish or otherwise) it's often seemingly innocuous symbols that portend bad things.

I usually don't give much to dream interpretation, but I suppose it could be worthy to find out what those weird dreams of mine are all about.
