Way Weird

A friend told me about this optical illusion, which supposedly tells you which part of your brain is dominant. Problem is, when I look at it, it keeps switching directions. I can't decide whether the illusion is defective or if I am. Which way does the dancer go for you?

Apparently it IS defective, but not because of that. :)

I had it clockwise for a while when Trep posted it last week... then suddenly had it going counter. Then I was able to make it switch at will! (Woohoo, mind control!) But when I start, it's usually clockwise.

Freakonomics wrote about it today.

Clockwise all the way.

I am trying to make it go the other way but as much as I try and refocus is still goes clockwise. I would love to know if this is real or a hoax that has the dancer spinning differently at different times in order to create a buzz of people seeing different things.

Okay, I figured it out. At first I thought its a hoax but its not, its brilliant!!! If you see it clockwise try thinking about a detailed math problem (do 1436 + 1267 in your head) and you will see her start spinning counter clockwise!!!

It really depends on what part of your brain your are accessing at the time you look at it!

Brilliant!!!

Its not working passionate

as soon as i see the math problem, i check to see which way its moving, then the focus moves of of the problem and onto the clockwise movement.

Very interesting and I agree it's defective!

I got clockwise too and on every test I've ever taken it's always said that I was a left brain.

I can't see it going the other direction at all. :(

If it changes direction on its own, it means that you use both sides of your brain equally.

Ezzie -
Thanks for the article - interesting!

HH - Right now it's going counter-clockwise for me. But it could change at any second. Oh, there ya go, clockwise now.

PL -
It doesn't change as easily as thinking of a math problem for me - it just seems to switch whenever it feels like it.

Debbie -
When I initially looked at it, it said I was left-brained and I was shocked by that. But then later, it switched.

Silk -
I took another test out of curiosity and it said I was balance-brained. Seemed to make sense.

Sarah -
Sorry :(

What is wrong with all of you -- she is totally turning counterclockwise! :-P I used to think my brain was pretty balanced, but as hard as I try I can't get her to switch...

WAIT! Just tried again and now I got it... then I couldn't switch back for more than a second at a time and now I'm getting dizzy...

I did it by concentrating on the higher leg and visualizing it being in front or behind her. So the logical part of my brain is what made her start turning right... go figure.
