Lost in Translation

I am finding that, in IM conversations, sarcasm is difficult to detect. And therefore, many more people take me seriously than would otherwise. (Some people manage to miss my sarcasm in real life as well, but in IM it's happening even more.) I'm not sure how to remedy this. Any suggestions?

More emticons. :)

I had the same problem for a while; now people just get annoyed with the smileys once in a while. It's much better than their being insulted by a sarcastic joke...

I only use sarcasm in IM with people who know me and get my sarcasm (But I'm not really that sarcastic to begin with)

When applicable, it helps to put the sarcasm into ""s. Or to exaggerate the word somehow (like I just "looooove it" when it rains all over my homework.
Otherwise, I would also stick to people who are really on your wavelength with the type of sarcasm you want to use. If it's just one of those days where people aren't getting you left and right, go to sleep and try again tomorrow ;)

Ezzie -
The problem with emoticons is I just don't know them that well, except for very, very basic ones.

Sarak -
I think I am more sarcastic than you, I can't help it.

Raggedy -
Good suggestion.

Sarah -
Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Yes, yes, I'm working on it.
