'Tend

A friend invited me for a meal this Shabbos because it was her daughter's last week before going away to sleep-away camp. Her daughter is very sweet. We have a lot in common - both of us are the oldest children with only younger brothers and no sisters. Her daughter asked me if we could be "pretend sisters." My friend was a little disturbed by the thought of this as she herself is only a year older than me and would have had me kinda young. But it was cute. Her daughter said that she heard a story about someone who used to say pretend "'tend." So we decided we would be "'tend sister." Finally, a sister!

Nostalgia

My co-worker mentioned an old teacher of hers that she had recently found some information about and emailed. I decided to try my hand at finding an old teacher that I remember fondly. I didn't find information about her, but I did find the website to my elementary school - Will Roger Elementary - Home of the Wranglers.

I remember our morning assemblies - also known as "Round-Up" where we would sing songs from our state's namesake Musical. My favorite was "Oh What a Beautiful Morning." It is now a Blue Ribbon School, so I guess I got a decent education there.

Irony Continued

On my way to work in the morning, my bus passes the Meadowlands. I usually take that opportunity to check out the current time and temperature posted on the huge sing outside the Meadowlands, along with ads for whatever event will be happening there soon. Unfortunately, the sign is often not working right and does not display the accurate time and temperature. This morning, the sign was completely not working, just a blank black screen. I thought it ironic that a sign which was obviously suffering from a lack of power, was also sporting a large symbol for PSE&G, the local power company, as its sponsor.

Student Loans

Anyone know anything (or know someone who does) about student loans - specifically consolidating and/or paying them off? I could use help getting everything sorted out. Thanks!

Update

I know I haven't blogged in a while. Between Shavuos and just being uninspired, I just haven't had much to write. There have been a few things going on though.

I received my diploma yesterday! Woo Hoo - it's totally official.

I booked a ticket to see my family in Alabama for a weekend in July. I am sure it will be nice and toasty while I'm there, but it will be great to see everyone.

I was in Port Authority this morning and while I was getting off the bus, I noticed a sign that said "Road Work, 300 Feet." I thought it was funny to see a sign talking about road work inside a building. Then I realized that the strip of building it was referring to actually does have a LOT of traffic over it, considering all the buses that drive over it every day.

I have an interview next week. It is with a really interesting non-profit organization for a position that sounds like it would be excellent experience. Wish me luck!

Dating is Dead?

Really interesting column in the NY Times on dating, written by a 21-year-old, pontificating on the modern state of the date.
