Stuff

I guess I haven't had much to say lately. Or maybe it's that I've had so much to say that I haven't been able to narrow it down. Two papers and two days of internship this week, has been keeping me quite busy. Also, a lost cell phone, and then a replacement that didn't work kinda put my mind elsewhere. But right this second, things seem to be somewhat calm. Until I sleep, perchance to dream. (Sorry, that's one of my favorite Shakespeare lines, had to slip it in.)

When I'm under stress, I'm not the nicest person. I think I haven't been incredibly nice lately to some people. I've been venting and selfish. It doesn't feel great. Hopefully when my semester is over in a few more weeks, things will get better. Until then I don't know how much I will be posting.

I feel silly complaining. The kids I have been counseling go through a lot more than I do. Sigh.

I want to end this on a happy note. So I'll just say that my new phone has a camera, so hopefully I will be able to post pics from it soon!

Parade Watching

I'm watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade on TV right now. I remember watching it as I grew up. I also remember, being part of my high school marching band (yes, I'm a nerd, I know), hearing about bands being invited to march in the parade and thinking how way cool it was, since I had never been to big old New York City.

It's so weird to me that I'm now watching the parade and know exactly where they are walking and broadcasting from. That I was walking on those streets yesterday as a part of my normal daily routine. Things sure have changed.

LOTD

Today's LOTD is a Dave Matthews, super-mellow, chilled-out, relaxin' tune.

Pay for What You Get

Work ourselves
Fingers to the bone
Suck the marrow, drain my soul
Pay your dues, and your debts
Pay your respects
Everybody tells you
You pay for what you get
You pay for what you get

Everybody asks me how she's doing
Has she really lost her mind?
I said, I couldn't tell you I've lost mine
Words words words have you heard
A bird in the hand is much better than,
Any number free to wander
Fly away... stay

You pay for what you get
You pay for what you get
Everybody asks me how she's doing
Is she really all she says...
Every body asks me how she's doing
Since she went away
I said I couldn't tell you
I'm okay I'm okay

Surpries, surprise
You pay for what you get
You pay for what you ger

Everybody asks me how shes' doing
Has she really lost her...
Everybody asks me how she's doing
Since she went away
I said I couldn't tell you
I'm okay I'm okay I'm okay
How are you?

Pay for what you get
Pay for what you get... oh...
pay for what you get Pay for what you get oh... Oh...

:)

One of the students that I have been counseling at my internship saw me in the hallway today and went out of her way to say hi. Later in our session, she told me she only does that for the teachers she likes. It made me feel like I am doing a good job :)

Grey's (No Spoilers)

I LOVE Bailey. Even more than I did before, I do now. She rocks. Even if she isnt' having an affair with anyone else on the show.

Sparkly Purple Thursdays

I just thought people who are not my Facebook friends should be aware that sparkly purple Thursdays are once again being observed, after a short hiatus. I'm not promising that it will be celebrated every single week (because that makes it lose its specialness) but today is quite sparkly and purple :)

Quote

From Rabbi Fleischmann:

Hemingway is supposed to have said that the world breaks everyone but some are stronger in the broken places. Many are numb to the breaks. And many are stuck in the pain. But many also work on the strength that can follow the breaks.

Suggestions Needed

I have a slight peanut allergy which flares up now and then. And it is flaring up now. What can I bring for lunch that does not need to be refrigerated and does not involve peanuts?

Holiday Party

Blah, blah, blah, Holiday party. Food, alcohol, music. Blah, blah, blah. Per head cost. Platters, appetizers, drinks. Blah, blah, blah.

Am I the only person who really, seriously, does not care one bit about the work holiday party?

Morning Adventures

It's been an eventful morning and it's not even 8:00 AM yet.

I went to Duane Reade this morning. I realized that although I know the number that corresponds with the color of lipstick I like, I have no idea what the brand name is. I just know that it's blue. I managed to find it, but it's way expensive at Duane Reade, so I decided to pass on purchasing it for now.

While I was leaving the make-up aisle, I found an amazing discovery! The eyeliner that I LOVE because it really does last forever, being almost impossible to take off, was staring me in the face! I didn't know Duane Reade carried it - I had found it in a beauty supply store near my office which has since stopped selling this amazing eyeliner. I picked out several colors that I love.

I extolled the virtues of this eyeliner to the woman who was checking me out. She gave me a few other secrets about eyeliners, I do have to admit that her eyes looked very pretty.

I then went to purchase bus tickets. NJ Transit has replaced their machines with fancy new machines. I found it quite disconcerting, but I did manage to purchase my tickets without too much trouble. I did, however, manage to drop my awesome purple hat in the process and am very grateful to the man who alerted me about my almost loss. I don't know if I could have made it through the winter without a purple hat.

On my walk from Port Authority to my office, I engaged in battle with my slip, which is trying desperately to live up to its name these days. For the past few days, it has been attempting to take off in an opposite direction from whichever one I am traveling. I'm still perplexed as to how anything can manage to slide off my hips, but I'm beginning to think it's time for a new slip, this one is about ten years old anyway.

And finally, I opened my box of cereal this morning and there was a toy inside! I had forgotten about those. It didn't work, of course, but I am still the proud owner of a Bee Movie buzzer.

And to continue my obsession, here is yet another Grey's Anatomy inspired LOTD:

Snow Patrol
Chasing Cars

We'll do it all
Everything
On our own

We don't need
Anything
Or anyone

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

I don't quite know
How to say
How I feel

Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads

I need your grace
To remind me
To find my own

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

Forget what we're told
Before we get too old
Show me a garden that's bursting into life

All that I am
All that I ever was
Is here in your perfect eyes, they're all I can see

I don't know where
Confused about how as well
Just know that these things will never change for us at all

If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

(Just a quick note before you watch the video - this one is awesome - it includes a bunch of the hot guys that have since been dismissed from the show :)

More Office Antics

My co-workers are well aware of my glitter and sparkle fascination. They completely indulge me in it whenever possible. But apparently, sparkle-enthusiasm is not only amusing, it's catching. My co-worker, who is somewhere in her 60's (I've never asked exactly, because I don't think she wants to answer) came in today wearing dark red nail polish with glitter on top. When questioned about it, she admitted that she was copying me. I'm SO flattered :)

LOTD

This is another from the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack (which I am still loving, and thank you to my dad for buying me the Season 3 DVD - anyone want to have a Grey's party?).

This one is KT Tunstall
Universe and U

A fire burns
Water comes
You cool me down
When I'm cold inside
You are warm and bright
You know you are so good for me,yeah
With your child's eyes
You are more than you seem
You see into space
I see in your face
The places you've been
The things you have learned
They sit with you so beautifully

You know there's no need to hide away
You know I tell the truth
We are just the same
I can feel everything you do
Hear everything you say
Even when you're miles away
Cause I am me, the universe and you

And just like stars burning bright
Making holes in the night
We are building bridges

You know there's no need to hide away
You know I tell the truth
We are just the same
I can feel everything you do
Hear everything you say
Even when you're miles away
Cause I am me, the universe and you
I'm the universe and you

When you're on your own
I'll send you a sign
Just so you know
I am me, the universe and you
The universe and you
The universe and you
I am the universe and you

I'm It! Five Things

you wouldn't know about me from my Frumster profile, tagged by Come Running.

I haven't looked at my Frumster profile in quite a while, so I'm guessing here about what is and is not in there, but to the best of my knowledge, you will not know the following from reading it:

1) I am a dare devil type. I went sky diving and wasn't scared for a second. I'm afraid of very little.

2) I was actually born in Texas, so the song "The Yellow Rose of Texas" is very fitting for me.

3) I played the clarinet for years, from junior high through college, but have no idea what even happened to my clarinet at th is point, I haven't picked one up in a LONG time.

4) I'm a blogger. No mention of it in my profile anywhere, though there have been a few who figured it out.

5) I dislike tomatoes and avocados. I have tried and tried to like eating them, to no avail.

I don't tag people in general, but if anyone would like to consider themselves tagged, they are welcome to do so.

Another Mystery

Since I cleared up the mystery of the floral-painted cabs (see the comment section below), I figured I would add another mystery to my list. Why do buildings not have 13th floors but they will have the address 666? Is that not also bad luck?

Random Stuff

Just a few random things that have been happened that I wanted to share but didn't have time to blog about -

- The guy who runs the coffee shop downstairs is my new best friend. When I told him I wanted something creamy and caramelly this morning, not only did he make me a very yummy latte, he also drew a smilie face with the caramel on top of the coffee for me. Love him.

- Last night in class, my professor was wearing a pair of jeans that had, as the logo, the Hebrew letters Pay-Nun. I noticed it and then wrote it off as not seeing it correctly, because why on earth would my Asian professor be wearing jeans with Hebrew on them? But then one of my Jewish classmates asked me about it also and I realized that it wasn't just my eyes that were deceiving me. Anyone have any idea what brand this might be?

- I actually won a game of Scrabulous! Woo hoo!

- I finished writing my paper - Double Woo Hoo!

- I still hate wedding showers. Whoever invented them (and all those dumb games) should be shot. Seriously.

- Anyone know what is up with the cabs in the city being painted with flowers? There seem to be more and more of them every day.

- I think there was more stuff, but I don't remember now. I'll end with the LOTD, courtesy of the Grey's Anatomy soundtrack (but don't tell me about this week's episode, I haven't seen it yet!). Update - Thanks you to my dad who has continued to indulge my Grey's obsession by purchasing the Season 3 DVD for me. Yay :)

Tegan and Sara
Where Does the Good Go

Where do you go with your broken heart in tow
What do you do with the left over you
And how do you know, when to let go
Where does the good go, where does the good go
Look me in the eye and tell me you don't find me attractive
Look me in the heart and tell me you won't go
Look me in the eye and promise no love's like our love
Look me in the heart and unbreak broken, it won't happen
It's love that leaves and breaks the seal of always thinking you would be
Real, happy and healthy, strong and calm, where does the good go
Where does the good go
Where do you go when you're in love and the world knows
How do you live so happily while I am sad and broken down
What do you say it's up for grabs now that you're on your way down
Where does the good go, where does the good go
